Utah man who killed a woman in DUI crash seeks parole

DRAPER, Utah (AP) — A Utah man is seeking parole ten years after he killed a woman while driving drunk and high on meth.

The Deseret News reports 50-year-old Richard Allan Bash told a parole board on July 17 he has a hard time forgiving himself after the incident and struggles with mental illnesses.

In 2009 Bash hit and killed 54-year-old Wendy Kerbs while she was gardening in her yard in the northern Utah city of Roy.

Prior to the crash Bash already had seven DUI convictions in other states.

Since being in prison he told the parole board he had earned his high school diploma and worked to become sober.

At the hearing Kerbs’s children said they feared Bash hurting another family.

The board will now vote on whether to grant parole.
