AMERICAN FORK, Utah (AP) — A 22-year-old Utah man has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse after police say he repeatedly punched his 3-month-old baby in the face.
Authorities say the infant is in critical but stable condition with severe head trauma at a Salt Lake City hospital.
American Fork Police Sgt. John Christensen said Tuesday that Mason Blair of West Haven allegedly admitted to investigators he lost his temper and struck the infant multiple times on the side of face and head with a closed fist after the baby spit up on him.
Christensen says further investigation revealed multiple additional incidents of past abuse.
Blair was being held in the Utah County jail on $10,000 bail for suspicion of child abuse involving serious bodily injury. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
