Utah House Approves Tax Cut; Food Tax Removal Fails

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah House passes a 200-million-dollar tax cut package. The plan in SB59 slashes income and social security taxes for Utahns, saving them about one-hundred dollars a year on average. A plan from a bipartisan group of Democrats and Republicans to remove the state sales tax on food failed to make it into the final package. Supporters of that measure argued the removal of the food tax would be more beneficial to those in low-income jobs.
