SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Legislature has announced plans to tackle tax reform in a special session after receiving the recommendation from a legislative task force this week. Officials say Republican Gov. Gary Herbert has formally called a special legislative session Thursday at 5 p.m. to decide on the restructuring of the state tax code. Herbert approved the special session measure this week after a legislative panel voted to advance a package of proposed tax changes. Officials say the plan would hike the sales tax on food and apply new taxes to certain service transactions and motor fuel purchases while making cuts to the income tax.
