(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah domestic violence related deaths are rising this year. Officials say police have investigated more domestic violence related killings during the first six months of 2023 than they did in all in 2021. A domestic violence victim advocate Elizabeth Sollis said the primary reasons for the killings are power and control. Sollis said they’re seeing more severe and fatal cases because the denial of progressive emotional and verbal abuse. Officials say the community can’t dismiss controlling and manipulative actions or pass off other abusive behaviors as proof of a loving relationship.
