(Salt Lake City, UT)  –  The Utah Transit Authority says collisions with crossing gates for TRAX and FrontRunner trains are costing Utahns over 300-thousand-dollars a year.  The “Salt Lake Tribune” reports that drivers hit nearly 330 crossing gates last year, with an average cost of repair of about a-thousand-dollars.  A UTA staffer says most of the damage happens when people try to get through crossings after a train passes but before the gate arm lifts completely.  The agency is asking people to wait for red lights to stop flashing before trying to go through crossings both to prevent the damage and to help ensure public safety.Â
