Update on Girls Struck By Lightning at Puffer Lake

BEAVER, Utah (AP)-Per official reports from various Salt Lake City television stations Saturday evening, the families of girls struck by lightning at Puffer Lake Friday revealed more information on their status.

The girls, aged 8 and 16, respectively, suffered critical injuries Friday during a family reunion at Puffer Lake, 21 miles east of downtown Beaver on S.R. 153.

They also revealed that a family dog returned to the campsite and astutely led the families to the unconscious girls.

As of Saturday evening, the 8-year-old girl remained in critical condition at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City but has reportedly made “steady improvements.”

Additionally, she is responding to medical interventions from staff members at Primary Children’s, per a press release obtained from the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office.

The 16-year-old girl in serious condition made “great improvements” and is presently in stable condition and healing.

The family, in a press release from the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed the girls are from Payson and Santaquin, respectively. They also are grateful to all “good Samaritans and first responders,” the press release stated, and hope to personally thank everyone in the future, for their efforts.
