Two Structure Fires in Sanpete County in Three Days

The Indianola Valley Fire Department has been busy this week. The department responded to a fire early during the morning of Jan. 30 in Hideaway Valley and another fire during the afternoon of Feb. 1 in Indianola.

According to Battalion Chief Josh Mecham the fire in Hideaway Valley was a garage fire, and when officials arrived the garage was fully engulfed in flames. The department took a defensive approach to the fire to protect surrounding structures. The garage was a total loss and there was slight damage to a nearby camping trailer, but no other damages were reported.

According to Mecham, when authorities arrived at the fire in Indianola, they could see smoke exiting a house through an attic vent. Upon further investigation a chimney fire was discovered. The department was able to put out the fire but the home was significantly damaged.

The causes of both fires remain under investigation.
