(Provo, UT) — The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is urging people to use caution near rivers and bodies of water especially during heavy runoff periods. Deputies say two separate drowning incidents this past weekend involved victims near rivers. On Saturday, a 12-year-old boy fell into the Provo River. Search and rescue teams pulled him from the water four miles away almost two hours later. The boy was later pronounced dead at the hospital. On Friday, a 19-year-old woman was reported missing at Horsetails Falls Trail in Alpine. Rescue crews found her body on Saturday. Deputies say recovery efforts for both victims were more dangerous due to the rapid waters.
