Two Gunnison youth in the hospital after rock slide

Two Gunnison youths were extreme lucky when a rock slide involving some massive rocks smashed into their vehicle as they were traveling down the Willowcreek road north east of Salina Utah.

Sevier County deputies responded with Sevier County EMS, Salina Fire department, Sevier County Search and rescue, Utah Highway Patrol, Sevier County road Department, and US Forest service were dispatched to a collapse when the two youths were discovered.

One was still partially trapped and the vehicle had to be cut open by the fire department to get him out. The driver was flown by medical helicopter to Utah Valley Hospital and the passenger was taken to Gunnison Valley Hospital.

None of the injuries were reported to be life threatening at the time. Several other campers were stranded behind the rock slide and either had to stay at their camping site or find another way home after having to walk around the slide. The road is temporarily closed until it can be assessed and cleared.
