Transportation Bill Advances in Utah with Changes After City Pushback

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A transportation bill is progressing after adjustments were made to address concerns from Salt Lake City and others. Originally, the bill included a one-year pause on road safety projects, but after pushback, that provision was removed. The revised bill still calls for a study on the impacts of highway reduction strategies on traffic, safety, and air quality, focusing on roads west of Foothill Drive, north of 21-hundred South, east of I-15, and south of 600 North. Salt Lake City voiced concerns that the original language could impact planned safety measures, but lawmakers hope the new version provides a compromise. The bill will undergo further modifications before being presented to Governor Spencer Cox.
