Third-Party Candidate Looking To Take Senator Mike Lee’s Seat

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A third-party candidate is looking to take Utah Senator Mike Lee’s seat when it comes up for re-election next year. Evan McMullin ran for president in 2016 as an independent and garnered about 21-percent of the vote in the state. Now, he’s gunning for Lee’s seat, but it could be an uphill battle as a poll from the Hinckley Institute of Politics in February showed that Lee has a 67-percent approval rating from the Republican Party. Officials with the institute say McMullin needs followers from the state and for those followers to translate to voters who actually show up to the polls.
