Tax Increase Approved To Fund New Jail

(Cedar City, UT) — A new sales tax increase is going into effect in Iron County later this year. Commissioners approved the point-three percent hike last week which will be used to help fund a new jail. Officials expect it to bring in more than four-million dollars per year. The move comes after the state legislature passed a law this session allowing rural counties to pass new taxes to help fund public safety projects. The higher tax begins countywide in July.
