(Salt Lake City, UT) — A report sent to leadership in the Utah Legislature is calling for the state to eliminate the sales tax on food to help address food insecurity. The Food Security Task Force found one-out-of-ten homes experience some form of food insecurity in the state. Homes with children, single mothers, people with disabilities, seniors and BIPOC communities are disproportionately affected. The task force also recommends more money from the state to go to emergency food assistance to help address the problem.
