(Cedar City, UT) — Southern Utah University officials are confirming no shots were fired in connection with an alert issued to students and staff on Thursday. The campus was locked down after a report that there was a possible active shooter on the premises. Police say the university received a phone call at about 9:23 a.m. regarding a shooter and shortly after, noises sounding like gunfire were reported coming from the science building. Lockdown procedures were initiated, and classes were canceled for the rest of the day. Police estimate the lockdown affected approximately 20 buildings, which were all cleared and checked just after 12 p.m. The incident is under investigation.
