SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (AP) — A burglary suspect who authorities say fatally struck a Utah police officer with a vehicle was involved in an unrelated deadly rollover crash earlier.
Authorities say Felix Anthony Calata intentionally struck and killed South Salt Lake Officer David Romrell when Romrell and another officer responded Saturday to a burglary call at a business.
A search-warrant affidavit said Calata was involved in a fatal crash in late March in Salt Lake City as he was being followed by a Department of Natural Resources officer.
The court record said the vehicle driven by Calata had crashed into another vehicle.
The crash caused Calata and a female passenger to be ejected from the SUV, which was believed to have been stolen.
The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
