The Uinta Basin Railway project can continue forward after a landmark decision issued by the U.S. Supreme Court. They upheld the federal environmental review of the project opening the door for the construction of the 88-mile rail line, which will connect the Uintah Basin to the national freight network. According to a press release from Uintah Basin Railway, the railway “is designed to solve long-standing freight transportation challenges by providing a safe, cost-effective and sustainable solution for moving goods in and out of the region. Spanning Duchesne, Carbon and Uintah counties – and crossing lands managed by the Ute Indian Tribe, Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Forest Service and private owners.” Next steps in the project include reauthorization by the Surface Transportation Board, federal permit reinstatement, regulatory compliance, project planning and financing and construction preparation.
