Stewart Submits Resignation, Governor Sets Timeline For Special Election

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Representative Chris Stewart says he will step down from his Second District congressional seat on September 15th. Stewart submitted a formal resignation letter to Governor Cox yesterday, saying his time in Congress has been one of the great honors of his life. Governor Cox will call lawmakers back to the State Capitol next week for a special session to set the timeline for elections to replace Stewart. Under the timeline, primaries would be held on September 5th and the special election for the seat would be November 21st.
