(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah lawmakers are moving forward with a bill that would eliminate the state sales tax on food. House Bill 54 was passed by the state Senate yesterday and will head back to the House for a final vote before heading to the governor’s desk. The bill requires Utah voters to approve a change in the state constitution to change the way income tax revenue is distributed. The constitution currently requires that money from the income tax is spent on education, disability services and programs for children. A bill to put that issue on the statewide ballot is under consideration.
