(Salt Lake City, UT) — Two state lawmakers are hoping to push their colleagues into discussing a proposal to eliminate the state’s sales tax on food. Democratic Representative Rosemary Lesser and Republican Representative Judy Weeks Rohner plan to speak to reporters about the issue this morning. Governor Cox has already indicated his support for the idea, but Republican leaders in the House and Senate have shown no interest in pursuing it. The GOP is discussing the creation of an earned-income tax credit for lower-income Utahns as well as a cut in taxes on Social Security.
