(Salt Lake City, UT) — Officials say abortion care will remain legal in Utah for now. The state Supreme Court allowed a preliminary injunction that blocks the Legislature’s near-total abortion ban to stay in place yesterday. Planned Parenthood Association of Utah and Utah Democrats reacted positively to the ruling. In a joint statement, Governor Spencer Cox and Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson announced they were disappointed by the Supreme Court’s ruling because it delays implementation of a law designed “to protect some of the most vulnerable members of our state.” The case will continue in the lower courts after the 4-1 ruling was released.
