State Approves Land Swap In Bears Ears National Monument

(Salt Lake City, UT) — State lawmakers are ready to do some land trading with the federal government. The Legislative Management Committee approved a deal yesterday that would swap 161-thousand acres of land inside Bears Ears National Monument for 164-thousand acres of land in other parts of the state. The deal will allow the state to better develop the land it receives and put the money into the Utah school system. The land swap would not be affected by any future lawsuits seeking to overturn the Biden Administration’s decision to restore the original boundaries of the Bears Ears monument.
