(Salt Lake City, UT) — A bill that requires children to have parental consent before they can create social media accounts is moving forward in the Utah Legislature. The House Judiciary Committee advanced the bill on Friday. The measure originally included an outright ban on social media for Utah children younger than 16-years-old, but that’s been modified to allow usage with parental consent. The bill was also stripped of a provision requiring the uploading of a government-issued ID to prove that a parent was approving their child’s social media account. The bill now moves to the House floor for consideration.
