(Salt Lake City, UT) — A skier is recovering from a broken leg and other injuries he suffered in an avalanche in the Thomas Fork area of Neffs Canyon yesterday afternoon. Officials with the Unified Police Department say the 35-year-old man was trapped up to his waist by the avalanche for about 45 minutes. A Unified firefighter and an EMT were nearby when they heard his calls for help. The man had to be transported out by snowmobile because the weather made a helicopter rescue unfeasible. It took crews almost eight hours before the man could be transported to a hospital.
