Shoshone leader announces bid for Congressional seat

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — The chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation is running for Congress, joining the race to replace Republican U.S. Rep. Rob Bishop. The Herald Journal newspaper reports Darren Parry announced Thursday he will run as a Democrat. He is the author of a book about the Bear River Massacre and has successfully advocated for a new visitors center at the northern Utah site. Several Republicans are already vying for the seat in the heavily GOP district after Bishop announced he would not run again. He’s instead running for lieutenant governor.
