Residents in Richfield woke up Saturday morning to the sounds of sirens, but it wasn’t an emergency. A parade of fire trucks, police cars and trucks drove down main street with local kids, ready to go shopping with kids in need.
The Shop with a Cop program in Richfield served over 70 local kids and families this year.
According to Sevier County Sheriff Nate Curtis, over $7,000 in donations from the community made all that possible.
Trooper Bronson Wood with the Utah Highway Patrol has done about 6 of these in his career. He says his favorite part is watching the kids who want to buy gifts for others.
“They show more compassion than actually they would buying for themselves,” Wood says.
Sheriff Curtis says he’s grateful every year for all those who help.
“I just can’t thank everyone enough that come to support us,” Curits says. “From the business holding the Shop with a Cop night at the different restaurants and people donating to our auction. It’s what makes it possible.”
