Parents are being urged to talk to their kids about safety after a possible abduction attempt earlier this month in Monroe in Sevier County.
Aubrey Lindsay says her son told her Thursday, a few days after it happened, that he was followed a few blocks by a man in a black dodge truck. The man told him to get in the truck, but the boy refused several times. The truck eventually drove away, but it left Lindsay scared for her child.
She shared the experience on social media, hoping to help other parents to be more aware of any danger.
“My son saw him long enough for him to get a lot of details,” Lindsay says.
Lindsay’s son said the man had grey hair, a goatee and green eyes.
Sevier County Sheriff Nate Curtis says authorities haven’t received any other reports like this one, but he’s still taking it seriously. And he says all parents should use this as an opportunity to talk to their kids about what to do in such a situation.
Curtis says parents should make sure their kids know that if anything like this happens, they need to tell a trusted adult quickly.
Officials have looked into the incident, but Curtis says because of all the time passed, there’s really nothing to go on.
