Sens. Lee, Romney Support Suspension Of Loan Forgiveness Plan

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Senators Mike Lee and Mitt Romney are among a group of Republican senators people calling for the suspension of President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan. The senators say Biden’s proposal to eliminate up to 20-thousand dollars of debt each for federal borrowers isn’t true forgiveness, as it shifts the burden from debtors to taxpayers. The plan is estimated to cost 400 billion dollars. The Republican resolution would also resume student loan payments which have been on pause since the start of the pandemic. According to Senator Romney, the pause will end up costing taxpayers 195 billion by its planned expiration in August.
