The upcoming session of the Utah Legislature will be Utah Sen. Ralph Okerlunds last after he announced last week that he does not intend to run for reelection.
The three time county commissioner has served as a Senator since 2009 representing Sanpete, Sevier, Wayne, Piute, Millard, Juab, Beaver, Garfield, and Kane counties. Okerlund was also named the Commissioner of the Year by the Utah Association of County Commissioners and Councils in 2004.
Before serving as senator and county commissioner, Okerlund served as Mayor of Monroe for two term and as a Monroe City Council member for one term.
According to Okerlund, he has “appreciated being able to work with such good people.” He also stated that he is ” going to miss his work in the Legislature, but it is time to move on, it’s been a pleasure to represent the people of District 24.”
