(Washington, DC) — Republican Senator Mike Lee was focused on how Facebook approves advertisements on its platforms during a Senate hearing yesterday. Senator Lee talked with Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen about how often the tech giant relies on artificial intelligence to approve ads, and then brought examples of fake ads created by the Technology Transparency Project focused on teens, encouraging recreational drug use and eating disorders. The ads were approved for use but never published. Haugen said it is possible ads like those may have never been checked by human eyes before approval.
