Sen. Lee Proposes Buying Federal Land To Build Affordable Housing

(Washington, DC) — Republican Senator Mike Lee wants to use federal lands to alleviate Utah’s housing crunch. Senator Lee introduced the HOUSES Act to allow state and local governments to buy parcels of federal land at a reduced price, so long as that land is used to address the housing supply. Lee argues land owned by the federal government is in part to blame for the housing crisis. The federal government owns about two-thirds of the land in Utah.
