Utah Highway Patrol received a call around 1:00 a.m. on Mar. 4 about a semi truck fire on westbound I-70 near mile marker 51 between Richfield and Salina.
Upon arrival it was discovered that it was the trucks trailer that was on fire. Fortunately the driver was able to detach his vehicle from the trailer and the truck didn’t receive any damage.
The trailer was filled with paper products and the freeway was closed for roughly one hour while crews worked to put out the blaze.
According to UHP Sgt. Jared Jensen it is believed that the fire was started when the trailer’s brakes overheated.
As of 11:00 a.m. on Mar. 4 crews were still working on “hot spots” and clearing up the freeway of the trailer and its cargo.
