A search is underway in a canyon east of metro Salt Lake City for a missing 17-year-old hiker from California. The United Police Department says the boy was visiting a friend and hasn’t been seen since he took an Uber to Millcreek Canyon Thursday morning to hike for the day. The boy’s identity hasn’t been released. Police spokesman Ken Hansen says his mother was traveling to Utah from Fresno. The boy is described as having curly brown hair and a medium build. It’s not known whether he was wearing appropriate winter clothing.
