After almost a century, the grandstand at the Sanpete County Fairgrounds is coming down. The Sanpete County Fair Board had hoped to use the grandstand through the 2017 fair season, but the Sanpete County Commission voted to demolish the structure immediately after a tour with engineers and a contractor discovered the structure was unsafe following several strong windstorms that caused extensive damage, including a shift of the entire grandstand. The oldest grandstand in Utah, the 98-year old structure will come down at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31. The new arena and grandstand won’t be ready for the fair until 2018, but plans are already in the works to ensure the fair goes on as planned this year.
