SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake County prosecutors have ruled that an officer was justified when he shot and killed a handcuffed man inside a police station. District Attorney Sim Gill said Thursday that Sgt. Tyler Longman will not face any charges related to the fatal shooting of Michael Breinholt on Aug. 23, 2019. Body camera footage shows Breinholt wrestling with two officers and one of them yelling that he was grabbing his gun. The footage shows Longman then ran into the room, grabbed Breinholt’s head and fired his weapon. Gill says he believed Breinholt’s death could have been avoided, but his decision had to focus on whether the incident was justified.
