Salt Lake City State Senator To Sponsor Bill To Legalize Psilocybin

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A Salt Lake City state senator wants to make it legal to use psilocybin to treat mental health issues in Utah. Democratic Minority Leader Luz Escamilla is planning to introduce a bill in the Senate that would create a program to use the drug to treat conditions like PTSD, anxiety and depression. Psilocybin is the formal name for the active ingredient in psychedelic mushrooms. The program would only allow the drug to be used by medical professionals in highly regulated settings. The bill is being supported by the group that helped push for the legalization of medical marijuana in Utah.
