Romney says he’ll ‘stay quiet’ on his 2020 presidential vote

WASHINGTON (AP) — Mitt Romney is the latest prominent Republican to cast doubt on his support for President Donald Trump’s reelection. The Utah senator and 2012 GOP presidential nominee said Monday that he would “stay quiet” about whether he’ll back another candidate. His open acknowledgment of hesitance in supporting Trump comes after former Trump defense secretary Gen. James Mattis and Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska aired criticism of the president’s handling of protests against the police killings of black Americans. The relationship between Romney and Trump is acrimonious. Romney was the only Republican to vote to remove Trump from office after the president’s impeachment trial earlier this year.
