(Salt Lake City, UT) — A new report says around half of the women who had abortions in Utah in 2021 did so because they couldn’t afford to care for a child. According to the state Department of Health and Human Services, just over 31-hundred abortions were performed in Utah in 2021. Of the nine choices provided for the reason for the abortion, the leading response was for “socio-economic” reasons. Other responses included elective reasons, contraception failures and mental health struggles. The report is from data prior to the Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade.
