Remains of lost WWII pilot buried in Utah

BLUFFDALE, Utah (AP) — The remains of a World War II pilot have been laid to rest in his home state of Utah after being returned from Germany.

The Salt Lake City Tribune reported Thursday that Army Air Forces 2nd Lt. Lynn W. Hadfield’s remains were buried 74 years to the day of Hadfield’s crash during a bomber plane run from France to Germany just months before the war’s end.

The newspaper says mourners at the Salt Lake City resident’s funeral Thursday included an honor guard and his daughter, Mary Ann Turner, who was 2 when her father died.

The newspaper reports a researcher found evidence of a crash in 2016 about 10 miles (16.1 kilometers) from the German city of Dulmen and DNA analysis confirmed the remains belonged to Hadfield and his crew.
