Religious Leaders, Lawmakers Ask Legislature To Eliminate Grocery Tax

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A group of Utah lawmakers and religious leaders are asking the legislature to end the state’s sales tax on groceries. Members of the Coalition of Religious Communities called for the elimination of the tax yesterday during an event in Salt Lake City. Speakers at the event said the tax was hurting families already struggling to buy food because of inflation. Democratic state lawmakers also called on their colleagues to drop the food tax instead of using an expected revenue surplus for an income tax cut.
