(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah lawmakers will not be pursuing a proposed idea to end the funding of public education through the state’s income tax. The Senate’s majority whip says lawmakers have decided to delay any discussion of the idea until after the current legislative session is over. State lawmakers have said the requirement to fund education through income tax revenue should be changed to give the state more flexibility in the budget process. The proposal would need voter approval because the education earmark is written into the state constitution.
