A huge power outage had left thousands without electricity Wednesday morning in Central Utah.
According to Rocky Mountain Power officials, 13,466 customers had the lights go out at 9:32 a.m. from San Pete County all the way down to Kanab. Rocky Mountain Power says equipment failure is to blame. The problem started with a 138,000 volt buss at the Sigurd, Utah substation. Several 46,000 volt transmission lines converge in that buss, and a mechanical failure with the buss caused the power to go out. There is a redundancy to prevent a power failure, but in an unusual turn of events, that also failed. The problem has been fixed and power officials say that at 10:59 a.m., all customers had their power restored.
