PROVO, Utah (AP) — A 32-year-old Provo man has been charged with child abuse and attempted murder after police say he choked his wife and children and repeatedly abused them.
Court documents show the charges were filed Wednesday against Jaime Marcos Salinas. Police say they began investigating after Salinas’s wife reported June 30 that he had repeatedly hit and choked their sons, an infant and a three-year-old boy.
Prosecutors say the woman initially declined to press charges, but reported him again weeks later. Provo police Sgt. Nisha King says Salinas was arrested after a July 20 traffic stop revealed he was also using a faulty driver’s license.
There was also a $750,000 warrant for his arrest issued out of Texas for assaulting a family member.
No attorney has been listed in court documents.
