Police believe they now have a suspect in custody after an investigation into an armed carjacking in Mt. Pleasant in Sanpete County.

According to Mt. Pleasant Police, several young men were carjacked at gunpoint Monday and taken West of town, where their SUV was stolen.

The victims called police while walking back to town.

Police found the SUV later that evening abandoned and vandalized. Police believe it had been beat up with a sledge hammer and then shot with several rounds.

On Tuesday, SWAT arrested 18-year-old Alex Hernandez, who’s believed to be the gunman. Police are looking at charging him with aggravated burglary and kidnapping.

Police say they believe everyone involved know each other.
