The parents of a University of Utah student who was shot and killed on campus in 2018 have filed another lawsuit against the school. Jill and Matt McCluskey allege in a lawsuit filed Monday that the university violated the state constitution by dismissing their daughter’s requests for help. Track athlete Lauren McCluskey had contacted university police more than 20 times to report harassment by her ex-boyfriend Melvin Rowland before he fatally shot her outside her dorm. The University of Utah declined to comment on the family’s most recent suit. The university has said its staff “deeply regret not better understanding the danger Lauren faced.”
