Update — (Panguitch, UT) — Officials in Panguitch are reporting that the mitigation efforts at the Panguitch Lake dam have been positive so far. In a town hall meeting, the Garfield County Sheriff Eric Houston reminded residents that they should still prepare for evacuation. Those in town will have two-to-three hours to evacuate if the dam breaks. Water will continue to be mitigated for at least the next week.
(Panguitch, UT) — An updated plan for residents in Panguitch has been released in case the dam breaks. The dam is currently at level two potential dam failure. Route 143 between Panguitch town and Panguitch Lake is still closed. Material is being added to the dam along with water release to the lower level of the lake. Those in the town are not under evacuation orders and the town is fully functional. Homes on the western portion of the lake are in danger in case of a dam breach and an evacuation plan can be found on the Utah Department of Public Safety website.
