Over 100K Chickens And Turkeys Culled After Avian Flu Outbreak

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Farmers are fighting a large avian flu outbreak that has prompted them to cull over 100-thousand chickens and turkeys. The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food announced Friday the animals were killed after multiple avian flu cases were detected in Piute and Salt Lake County since November 10th. Although the risk to the public remains low, five poultry farms in the state have been quarantined. This comes after almost two-million birds were culled last month in response to an outbreak in Cache County.
