Officials seeking eyewitnesses after pedestrian dies on I-70 in Sevier County

One man is dead after being hit by a semi tractor on I-70 in Sevier County Sunday afternoon.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, 18-year-old Leon Reyes of Elsinore died at the scene of the crash around 2:20 p.m. on Westbound I-70 near mile marker 38.

The semi driver, 65-year-old Abel Flores of Boca Raton, Florida, told authorities he saw Reyes on the right of the freeway and had drifted to the left lane. But the driver says Reyes ran out in front of him.

The semi driver was arrested for possession of marijuana and DUI, but Senior Trooper Kelly Roberts says he doesn’t believe he caused the incident.

Roberts says he doesn’t know why Reyes went into the roadway, but he can’t say either way if it was a suicide or not.

Authorities are asking for anyone who may have seen anything leading up to the incident to call them. Roberts says he saw a lot of traffic on Sunday and so he believes there must be an impartial witness who saw Reyes before the incident.
