SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A rural county commissioner apologized after comparing Utah Gov. Gary Herbert to Hitler in a social media post after the Republican governor gave approval to two counties to mandate masks in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Piute County Commissioner Darin Bushman tweeted the remark Thursday night with a picture of Nazis saluting. He deleted the post later Thursday night and tweeted that he was sorry to anyone who found the post offensive. Herbert said in a statement Friday that comparing mask wearing to Hitler’s “brutal authoritarianism” polarizes an important topic and trivializes what happened in the Holocaust.
