A K-9 Officer is recovering Wednesday following an officer-involved shooting in Washington County Tuesday night.

It all started when a man stole multiple vehicles, one after the other, in St. George.

He eventually ended up crashing a truck into a home in the area 2500 Santa Clara Drive. Police from multiple agencies responded to the crash scene.

Police found the suspect sitting in the driver’s seat of the truck. They attempted to talk the suspect into surrendering.

After about a half an hour, the suspect opened the door to the truck and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office K-9 jumped in the cab.

The man fired shots from a handgun, hitting the K-9 in the head.

Police opened fire and the man was hit multiple times.

The man was taken into custody and to Dixie Regional Medical Center for surgery. His condition is unknown.

The K-9 Officer was transported to a veterinary specialist in Las Vegas. No other officers were injured.
